‘240-km Dhaka-Ctg fuel pipeline
in 3 yrs’

The government will install a 240-km pipeline from Chittagong to Dhaka within three years to supply fuel at a cheaper rate, reports UNB. State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid on Sunday came up with the disclosure in Parliament replying to a tabled starred question from ruling Awami League MP Abdul Latif (Chittagong-11). Nasrul said the government has taken a step to set up a 240-km pipeline from Chittagong to Dhaka to ensure fuel supply at a cheaper rate. He hoped, “It’ll be possible to install the pipeline within the next three years following a detailed feasibility study and other process.” In reply to another starred question from AL MP Shamsul Hoque Chowdhury, the state minister said some 10 lakh metric tonnes of coal are extracted a year from the country’s lone coal mine, Barapukuria. Some 60 percent to 65 percent of the extracted coal is supplied to the 250-megawatt Barapukuria thermal power plant, Nasrul said.
