Man hacked dead ‘by neighbour’

A man was hacked to death allegedly by a neighbour over a land-related dispute at Baraipara village in Hatibanda upazila yesterday morning.
The deceased was identified as Shahidar Rahman, 38, a resident of the village.
Anisur Rahman, sub-inspector of Hatibanda Police Station, said Shahidar had a long standing dispute with his neighbour Nazrul Islam over the ownership of a piece of land.
Over the issue, they locked in a clash in the morning.
At one stage, Nazrul beat Shahidar mercilessly leaving him dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body.
Police also arrested Nazrul in connection with the killing.
One held with phensidyl
CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 arrested an alleged drug-trader with 133 bottles of phensidyl from Lachmanpur village under Shibganj upazila of the district on Friday night, reports BSS.
The arrested person was identified as M Shahin 22, of Telkupi village under Shibganj upazila of the district.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB from Chapainawabganj camp raided Lachmanpur area Friday night and arrested Shahin with 133 bottles of phensidyl.
Later, he was handed over to the police of Shibganj Thana and a case was filed in this connection.
2 children drown in Barguna
BARGUNA: Two children drowned in separate incidents in Patharghata upazila of the district on Friday, reports BSS.
The victims were identified as Sadia, 3, daughter of Mohammad Sohagh Miah of Haritana village and Mohammad Hasan, 5, son of Mohammad Belal Hossain, a native of Lakurtala village of the upazila.
Locals and family sources said, Sadia slipped into a pond nearby her home where she drowned. The locals retrieved her body from the pond after 3 hours of her missing.
Later, she was rushed to Patharghata Upazila Health complex where the attending doctors declared her dead.
The second incident, Mohammad Hasan fell into a canal nearby his home while he was playing on its bank and drowned around 6 pm on Friday, family sources said.
