The government has undertaken projects to bring activities of the police department under digital wireless communication system as well voice communications. “Dhaka, Rajshahi and Sylhet divisions have already been brought under digital wireless communication system,” State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan said yesterday while replying to a tabled question from treasury bench member AFM Bahauddin Nasim in the parliament, reports BSS. Asaduzzaman said the police department has also launched the digital wireless communication system in Rangpur and Gaibandha districts on a trial basis. Besides, initiatives are underway for procuring eight Channel Trunking System equipment aimed at modernizing the Chittagong Metropolitan Police wireless communication system, he said. The state minister informed the House that the government is working to bring Rangpur division (except Rangpur district) and one more division under digital wireless communication system in the current financial year. He said the government has installed computers having Internet facility at 43 wireless units out of 64 districts and six metropolitan units of Bangladesh Police for sending message through e-mail instead of voice communications, adding, “The installation of computers with Internet facilities at the rest of 27 units is underway.”
