Recently, the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture announced the first batch of 103 agricultural items to be inscribed in the 2016 national geographical indica-tion protection list. The Kanglang fish (Schizothorax taliensis) from Fuxian Lake is on the list, becoming the first aquatic species from Yunnan Province to enter the list.
Fuxian Lake, located in Yuxi city, is one of nine plateau lakes in Yunnan. The lake abounds in Kanglang fish, a unique native species of Yunnan. For a long time, the animal has been known as one of the four most famous fish in Yunnan because of its delicious taste. Entering the national geographical indi-cation protection list will further build its reputation.
