Five people have been sentenced to life term imprisonment in two separate cases of murder in Barisal and Gazipur. Staff reports from Barisal adds: The speedy trial tribunal of Barisal yesterday afternoon sentenced four people to life term imprisonment in a case filed over killing a college student.
Judge of speedy trial tribunal of Barisal Md Anisur Rahman announced the verdict in presence of the accused after examining 8 witnesses and other evidences. The court also sentenced five others 13-month jail and acquitted three people from the charge. The convicted are Masud Alom Mrridha, Md Kalam Mrridha, Md Kamal Hawladar and Mehedi Hasan of Agarpur village under Babugang upazila of the district. According to the case story, the convicts detained Rahat Reza Rakib, a first year student of Babuganj Degree College, while he was going home from his the college on September 4, 2014. The criminals gouged out Rahat’s eyes and beaten him up over previous enmity, leaving him dead. A case was filed in this connection accusing 13 people. Police later filed charge Sheet against 13 persons.
Our correspondent, Gazipur adds: A court here sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for killing his wife over a family feud in Gazipur in 2011. The judge of additional district and session judge court of Gazipur (second court) Mohammed Iqbal Hossain handed down the verdict yesterday. The court also fined the convict Tk 10,000 at the same time, in default, to suffer three months more in jail.
The convicted was identified as Mohammed Kamal Hossain, 40, son of Dhanu Morol of Kaoraid village under Sreepur upazila in the district. According to the prosecution, Kamal Hossain hacked his wife Shahida Begum to death at their residence in Khaliakur area of Gazipur over a family feud on April 30 in 2011.
Later, deceased brother Mohammed Abdul Gafur filed a case with Joydebpur police station against Kamal Hossain, a day after of the incident. Investigation officer of the case and also sub-inspector of Joydebpur police station Rafikul Islam submitted charge-sheet against Kamal Hossain on June 30 in 2011. After examining the records and 9 witnesses, the judge handed down the verdict yesterday.
