Huge Indian smuggled goods seized in Chuadanga
CHUADANGA: The BGB personnel seized huge quantity of Indian smuggled goods worth more than Tk 39.73 lakh from the three frontier areas of Damurhuda upazila of the district on Monday, reports BSS.
The smuggled goods include 337 pieces most costly sarees, 100 pieces panjabis, 50 pieces three pieces, 1,115 pair spectacles, injection and Indian medicines seized from Joynagar, Talshari and Darsana border areas, the BGB-6 battalion headquarters sources said.
Nobody was arrested in this connection.
Three separate cases were recorded with Damurhuda police station.
Two held with heroin
Chapainawabganj: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two alleged drug peddlers along with 900 grams of heroin from Amnura Post Office Para area in Sadar upazila on Monday, reports UNB.
The arrestees were identified as Ashraful Islam, 35, son of Saidur Rahman, and Matiur Rahman, 35, son of Mafiz Uddin, both residents of Mayenpur village in Tanor upazila of Naogaon district.
RAB-5, in a press release, said tipped-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area and arrested the duo at about 2:30pm.
RAB members also recovered 900grams of heroin from their possession. A case was filed in this connection.
Man hacked dead over land
Dinajpur: A man was hacked to death allegedly by his son over a land-related dispute at Gobindapur village in Parbatipur upazila on Monday night, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Moksed Ali, 60, a resident of the area.
Mahmudul Alam, officer-in-charge of Parbatipur police station, said Moksed locked into an altercation with his son Abdul Malek over selling a piece of land at about 10:00pm.
At one stage, Malek stabbed his father indiscriminately with a sharp weapon, leaving him dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Malek went into hiding after the incident.
Pabna Shibir secy held
Pabna: Police arrested district Islami Chhatra Shibir secretary Badiuzzaman from Manohorpur in Sadar upazila on Monday in connection with vandalism and sabotage cases, reports BSS.
Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Abdullah Al Hasan said tipped-off, a team of police conducted a raid on Badiuzzaman’s house in the area and arrested him at about 8:30pm.
The Shibir leader was accused in vandalism and sabotage cases, the OC added.
Minor boy drowns
Benapole: A minor boy drowned after falling in a water-filled hole at Gazipur village of Abhoynagar upazila in the district town ysterday morning, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Jisan, 2, son of Mohiuddin Bihari, a resident of the village.
Victim’s father Mohiuddin said Jishan slipped into the hole while playing in the morning.
After a frantic search, the body was recovered from the hole.
‘Criminal’ held in Benapole
Benapole: Police arrested an alleged top criminal from Benapole Bazar area on Monday night.
The arrestee was identified as Killer Sweet, 40, a resident of Dighirpar area under Benapole municipality.
Apurba Hasan, officer-in-charge of Benapole port police station, said on secret information, a team of police conducted drive in the area at night and arrested him along with a machete.
A listed terrorist in the area, he is accused in several cases, including for murder, arms and extortion.
