West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee yesterday reiterated her full support to the recent actions taken by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to root out all militant activities in Bangladesh. She voiced her support when Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Syed Muazzem Ali paid a courtesy call on the chief minister, said a press release issued by the Bangladesh deputy high commission in Kolkata. During the meeting, the high commissioner conveyed the West Bengal CM the greetings and best wishes of the Bangladesh prime minister. Since assumption of office, he said, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has undertaken various efforts to restore the ‘spirit of 1971’ and she has shown zero tolerance to all forms of terrorist activities.
Welcoming the high commissioner, Banerjee expressed her deep satisfaction over the progress made in Indo-Bangladesh relations and assured him that she will be actively contributing towards further strengthening the friendly relations between India and Bangladesh and take it to newer heights. They also exchanged views on various bilateral matters and issues of mutual interest. The chief minister also expressed her desire to strengthen people-to-people contact between the two countries through cultural exchanges.
