RANGPUR: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-13) in a drive with mobile court seized six tonne of polythene bags worth Taka 12 lakh and fined four polythene traders with Taka one lakh at Shothibari Bazar in Mithapukur upazila here on Saturday, reports BSS.
Additional Superintendent of Police from Rangpur RAB-13 Battalion and Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Mithapukur upazila & Executive Magistrate Mamunur Rashid jointly led the drive and mobile court, official sources said.
After searching Shothibari Bazar, the mobile court seized 6,164 kilogram polythene bags worth Taka 12 lakh and arrested polythene traders Murad Hassan, Motaleb Hossain, Sekendar Prodhan alias Bulu and Abdul Kader in these connections.
Later, Executive Magistrate of the mobile court fined the polythene traders with Taka one lakh in cash as per clause 6 (A) of the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act of 1995 or in default, to suffer two month jail term without labour.
After realisation of the fined amount, the mobile court destroyed the seized polythene bags at the area in presence of the elite force, officials and local people, the sources said.
