The present government has taken various steps for exploring the huge export potential of the highly fleshy, fibreless and tasty local variety Haribhanga mango being produced largely in Rangpur, reports BSS from Rangpur.
Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Public Administration HN Ashikur Rahman said this at a views-sharing meeting on “Development, preservation, marketing of Haribhanga mango and industrialization” here as the chief guest.
The ‘Haribhanga Aam Parishad’, Northbengal Development Council and mango nursery ‘Doyar Dan’ jointly organised the meeting with assistance of the district administration at conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in the city Saturday afternoon.
President of Rangpur unit of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Rehana Ashikur Rahman, Rangpur Chamber President Abul Kashem, General Secretary of city Awami League (AL) Tushar Kanti Mandal, Office Secretary of district AL Tauhidur Rahman Tutul, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ziaur Rahman addressed as special guests.
Presided over by Deputy Commissioner Rahat Anwar, Haribhanga mango growers, traders and researchers, agriculturists, government officials, civil society members, sociocultural and political activists, community leaders and elite attended the meeting.
The chief guest put emphasis on maintaining international standard preservation and processing fa
cilities to enhance export of the local variety Haribhanga mango that has huge demand in the markets abroad like local markets.
“The present government has allocated Taka 25 lakh for distribution of Haribhanga mango saplings
among 7,200 farmers of all 17 unions in Mithapukur upazila alone this season for expansion of cultivation of the local variety mango,” he said.
He called upon the concerned officials for further expanding and popularising cultivation of Haribhanga mango through disseminating latest technologies among the farmers and providing them knowledge for better agronomical managements.
