Indian cloths seized in Chuadanga
CHUADANGA: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized huge quantity of Indian smuggled clothes worth around Taka 52.5 lakh from a pick up van in Doulatganj area under Jibannagar upazila of the district on Wednesday, reports BSS.
Receiving secret information, a BGB team from Jibannagar BGB camp went to the spot and recovered the cloths from a pick up van. The seized clothes include 1,018 sarees, 67 valuable shirt pieces and 338 metres of cloths. BGB seized the pickup van but its driver and helper managed to flee away.  
Youth held with LG in Laxmipur
Laxmipur: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested a young man along with an LG and a cartridge from Aladatpur village in Sadar upazila on Wednesday night, reports UNB.
The arrestee was identified as Mahbubur Rahman,19, a resident of the village. Assistant Superintendent of Police Saiful Islam, acting commanding officer of Rab-11, said tipped off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area when some people, including Mahbubur Rahman, were gathering there for carrying out sabotage at about 11:30pm.
Later, Rab force arrested Mahbubur while his other associates managed to flee the scene. The elite force also recovered one light gun and one cartridge from his possession. A case was filed in this connection.
Two brick kilns fined Tk 80,000
KERANIGANJ: Two brick kilns were fined Taka 80,000 by a mobile court on Wednesday at Motbari area in Keraniganj upazila for not having the clearance certificate of department of environment, reports BSS.
The court, led by executive magistrate and assistant commissioner (land) of Keraniganj circle Shamim Banu Shanti, conducted the drives in the “Moklesh Enterprise and Aushtadona Brick Field” and fined Taka 30,000 and Taka 50,000 respectively. The court is comprised of officials of department of environment, Keraniganj upazila administration and members of the law enforcement agencies.
Seminar on Zakat held
CHUADANGA: A day-long seminar on the “Role of Zakat in Poverty Alleviation” was held here on Wednesday reports BSS. Saima Yunus, deputy commissioner of Chuadanga, was present at the seminar as chief guest. She called upon the well off people of the society to pay their zakat money to the poor and destitute people for alleviation of poverty. She added that if the zakat money is properly paid by the rich men hundreds of poor people of the society would be lifted out of poverty. She also urged the imams of the mosques to motivate and encourage the well-to-do people of the society to donate the zakat money properly for the welfare of the poor people.
