New chairman of NSF Endowment Committee
 Benajir Ahmed, immediate past chairman of North South University (NSU) Trust and founder life member of the North South Foundation (NSF), has been unanimously elected as the chairman of the NSF Endowment Committee.
He was elected at its 23rd Annual General Meeting on Friday for the year 2015-16, says a press release.
Besides, Syed A Ahad, former chairman and professor of Department of Soil, Water and Environment of Dhaka University, and Yasmin Kamal, eminent industrialist, have been unanimously elected respectively as vice chairman and the treasurer of the Endowment Committee for the same tenure.
Japanese delegation meets DU VC
A two-member delegation, led by Atsushi Sugiyama, professor of the Department of Pharmacology of Toho University, Japan called on Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Dhaka University (DU) Arefin Siddique at the latter’s office on the campus yesterday.
Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy of DU Md Saiful Islam, Professor of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry Md Shah Amran and Associate Professor Abu Asad Chowdhury were present on this occasion.
During the meeting, they discussed matters of mutual interest specially the possibilities of undertaking joint collaborative academic and research programmes by the University of Dhaka and the Toho University, Japan. They agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard soon.
Later, Japanese Professor Atsushi Sugiyama and Asaya Food Company President Hiroko Sugiyama, another team member of the delegation, delivered the lecture on ‘Cardiovascular Pharmacology’ and ‘Functional Foods’ respectively organised by the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry of DU at the departmental auditorium.
DIU Air Rover Scout Group reunion held
Daffodil International University (DIU) Air Rover Scout Group observed 4th year celebration and reunion programme recently, says a press release.
Enthusiastic participation of former and current Rover members, the programme was graced by founder vice chancellor and emeritus professor Aminul Islam.
Group Captain Kazi Abdul Moin, commissioner of Bangladesh Scout (Air Region), was present as the special guest in the programme. Presided over by Emran Hossain, secretary of DIU Air Rover Scout Group and director (Administration), the function was also addressed by Md Anowar Habib Kazal, treasurer, DIU Air Rover Scout Group and senior assistant director (Public Relations) and Ziaul Haque Sumon, founder secretary of the DIU Air Rover Scout Group. The function was moderated by Shaiful Islam Khan, Rover Scout Leader of DIU Air Rover Scout Group.
The chief guest Aminul Islam said scouting can play a vital role in developing career and building character of a student though which students can practice of becoming a successful leader and contribute a lot to the society.  He urged the students to be more active and participative in rover movement.
