Heavy rain cripples Khulna

KHULNA: Torrential rains that started on Sunday night waterlogged nearly one-fifth of Khulna city, disrupting city life and causing immense sufferings to city dwellers for about 8 hours, reports BSS. According to Met office, 190 millimeters of rain was recorded in the city in the 24 hours till 6.00am yesterday. Many areas of the city’s KDA Avenue, Khanjahan Ali Road, Lower Jessore Road, Rupsha Strand Road, Sher-e-Bagla Road, Iqbalnagar, Tutpara and many low lying areas have already gone under knee-deep water and vehicular movement in these areas have been severely affected. While visiting these areas at around 11 am, this correspondent saw rainwaters flooding kitchen markets, slums and the ground floors of most of the buildings and markets. Many human haulers and battery-run easy bikes were found stranded on waterlogged roads while office-goers were seen struggling to find transport.
