‘Criminal’ injured in Jessore

Benapole: An alleged terrorist sustained bullet injuries in a ‘gunfight’ with police in Dharmatala Rail Crossing area of Jessore town early yesterday, reports UNB. The injured was identified as Aktaruzzaman Diku, 30, a resident of Kharki area in the town. Officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station Mohammad Elias Hossain said police arrested Diku on Sunday afternoon. Later, a team of police along with Diku conducted a dive in Dharmatala Rail Crossing area to recover arms at about 2:30am. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, associates of Diku opened fire at the policemen, forcing them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight that left Diku bullet-injured. However, Diku’s associates managed to flee the scene. The injured was admitted to Jessore Medical College Hospital under police custody. Police also recovered one pistol, one magazine and two rounds of bullets from the spot. Diku was wanted in 12 cases including seven for murder, the OC added.
