Man kills wife in Madhupur

A man allegedly strangled his wife to death in Madhupur upazila of the district yesterday morning. The victim was identified as Monira Begum, 24, daughter of Ishaque Mia, of Roktipara village in Madhupur upazila. Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Madhupur police station, said Monira was married off to Rabiul Islam Sagar, of Paglapir of Panchagarh district, nine years ago and they had a five-year-old son. Sagar has been staying with his in-law’s family in Roktipara. Sagar developed an illicit relationship with Monira’s elder sister Rozina, 30, who is a widow, about two years back. Over the issue Sagar and his wife used to quarrel almost every day. Several arbitration failed to settle the issue. It is alleged that Sagar strangled Monira to death yesterday morning and the parents of Monira had hands in it. The family members tried to bury the body of Monira at 10 am to cover up the killing. But neighbours noticed marks of injury on Monira’s body and informed it to police. Police rushed to the spot and arrested Rabiul and Rahima, 48, mother of Monira. Father of Monira escaped the scene, said local people. ASP of Police Jamir Uddin Ahmed visited the spot. The body has been sent to a hospital morgue for autopsy.
