Charge sheet likely this month

Cesare Tavella

The Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will submit the charge-sheet on the sensational murder of Italian citizen Cesare Tavella this month.
Talking to The Independent at the DB headquarters at Minto Road in the city, Shaikh Nazmul Alam, deputy police commissioner of the DB (North Division), said: “We're currently doing some last-minute work before submitting the charge-sheet."
Cesare Tavella, 50, a project manager for Profitable Opportunities for Food Security (PROOFS) of the Netherlands-based NGO ‘ICCO Cooperation’, was shot to death by miscreants in the city’s Gulshan area on September 28 last year. A case was filed with Gulshan Police Station on that day, which was transferred to the DB police on September 29.
The DB arrested four persons—Tanzim Ahmed Rubel, Sakhawat Hossain Sharif, Russell Chowdhury alias Chakti Russell, and Minhazul Islam Russell alias Bhagna Russell—from different parts of the city, on October 25, in connection with the murder. All four were BNP activists.
All of them, except Russell Chowdhury, have confessed to the crime, the intelligence officer said.
“We're at the final stage of preparing the charge-sheet in the sensational murder case. We're currently analysing the gathered information,” he added.
Replying to a question, the DB official confirmed that the charge-sheet would be submitted to the court before the end of this month. “We must take some more time  keeping in mind the sensitive nature of the case,” he added.
He, however, did not disclose the names of the accused finally listed in the charge-sheet.
The mastermind behind the murder, his political associates and those who financed the killing, along with the four arrested men, would be named in the charge-sheet, Shaikh Nazmul Alam said.
