HC asks police to submit reports by Aug 4

The High Court yesterday again ordered the superintendent of police and officer-in-charge of Bandar thana in Narayanganj to submit probe reports in detail by August 4 on the incident of public humiliation of headmaster Shyamal Kanti Bhakta, reports UNB. An HC bench comprising Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Iqbal Kabir passed the order following time petitions filed by the two police officers seeking 60 days for preparing the reports. The bench also expressed satisfaction over the deputy commissioner’s report and recorded it after it was submitted along with the reports of the police super and the OC.
The court also fixed August 7 for further hearing. Earlier on May 29, the HC ordered the authorities concerned to submit detailed probe reports by June 8 in connection with the humiliation of the teacher. The court also fixed today (June 9) for the hearing. The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE), the deputy commissioner and police super of Narayanganj and the officer-in-charge of Bandar Police Station submitted four reports to the court through the Attorney General’s office. The court said necessary actions will be taken if the detailed reports were not placed properly. Earlier on May 18, the High Court wanted to know why legal measures should not be taken against Salim Osman, MP, and others who publicly humiliated the schoolteacher. The same HC bench issued the suo moto rule. On May 13, locals beat Shyamal Kanti Bhakta, headmaster of Piyar Sattar Latif High School in Bandar area of Narayanganj, for allegedly hurting religious sentiment.
