Police drives against militants from today

The police are going to launch a combing operation across the country from today (Friday) against the militants and criminals, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque. Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) will join the police during the special drives, he added. After a three and half hour meeting at the police headquarters yesterday, the police chief order the officers to update the lists of the members of different militant groups in the country.
Shahidul Haque asked the police officers to collect information about the militants working in different areas through community policing. Earlier, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal had said that the police will start anti-militant drives across the country. The police boss advised the police officers to strengthen the campaign against the militancy to build awareness among the mass people with a view to stop militancy. During the meeting, the IGP asked the police officers to increase the vigilance in different places of warships and surveillance on strangers and tenants, in a bid to thwart any sabotage. He also asked the police officers to take necessary steps to ensure foolproof security to the foreigners in the country. About the killing of Mahmuda Akter Mitu, wife of Police Superintendent Babul Akter, the police chief ordered the concerned police officers to find out the killers of Mitu as soon as possible. The police boss advised the police personnel to do their duty with strong determination and highest professionalism and also team spirit. Earlier in the day, the police chief visited the residence of SP Babul Akter in Banasri area of the capital. He inquired about the two children and family members of Babul.
