The last match of the Round-11 of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) between Victoria Sporting Club and Gazi Group Cricketers will be held at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium (KSOAS) in Fatullah today.
The match, which has been rescheduled by the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolitan (CCDM) due to unavoidable circumstances, was slated to take place on Wednesday.
The match will now be held at the same venue at 9:00am.
Centering this match, it has been surfaced that the reschedule has been done to give the advantage to Gazi Group Cricketers as it was alleged as the team did not manage to fetch their foreign player after Gurkeerat Singh left the country.
Nesar Uddin Kajal, general secretary of Victoria Sporting Club, said in this regard that they have sent a letter to the board to know why they have shifted the schedule of the match.
“We’ve taken the matter seriously and gave a letter to the board. But we are yet to decide what will be our next stance regarding this,” said Nesar Uddin.
“We have told the board through our letter so that they did not allow any foreign player if he registers his name today for playing the tomorrow’s match. If they allow breaking the rules, we will then approach to the board president,” Kajal told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Denying the allegation, Gazi Group Cricketers joint secretary Rakib Haider Pavel said that they have brought Punit Singh as their new foreign player in place of Gurkeerat Singh.
“We’ve registered the name of our new foreign player, Punit Singh. He will be seen to play for us in tomorrow’s important match,” said Rakib Haider.
“Tomorrow’s match is must-win situation for us to go into the next phase of the Super Six. If we can win the match against Victoria then we have possibility to go into the Super Six. And if we could move to the next phase then we will good foreign players for the forthcoming match,” Pavel told The Independent.
Kalabagan Krira Chakra general secretary Reaz Babu also expressed similar sentiment to CCDM and said Gazi Group is doing it against the norms of the bylaw.
CCDM coordinator Amin Khan said, “Gazi Group Cricketers registered the name of Punit Singh on Tuesday. So, we could not see any wrong to allow him to play tomorrow’s game between Victoria and Gazi.”
