Agri-scientists urged for discharging duties with sincerity

Agricultural extension officials and scientists should discharge their duties with more sincerity and honesty for boosting farm outputs to feed the country’s gradually increasing population, reports BSS from Rajshahi.
They also should put in their best efforts and work together for promotion of growers’ level farm mechanization to boost crop outputs as the present government is very much positive towards the field.
Secretary to Agriculture Ministry Moin Uddin made the observation while sharing views with officials and researchers from all departments under the ministry at the conference hall of deputy commissioner (DC) here on Friday afternoon as chief guest.
BADC Chairman Md Nasiruzzaman, BMDA Chairman Dr Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Deputy Commissioner Kazi Ashraf Uddin also spoke. Additional Director of Department of Agriculture Extension Fazlur Rahman chaired the meeting.
The agriculture secretary revealed that the cropping intensity can be increased to 250 per cent even 400 per cent from the existing 200 per cent through reducing the existing time gap between the two crops after the best uses of the farm mechanization.
To this end, the secretary said, all the officials and others concerned including the scientists and farmers should put in their level best efforts.
He said the present government has attained remarkable success in the agriculture sector and urged the officials concerned to put in their collective efforts to uphold the success in the days ahead.
He said there was no need of importing rice in last four to five years as we had adequate production to feed the nation.
Moin Uddin mentioned that the government has attached highest priority to the agriculture sector and added that the field level officials and researchers should take the responsibilities of reaching the government’s services to the farmers’ doorsteps.
Besides, he put maximum emphasis on reaching the newly developed high yielding and high-valued crop varieties and updated technologies to the farmers’ doorsteps to reduce the yield gaps.
