Suchanda to receive lifetime achievement award today

For veteran actress-producer Koohinur Akhter Suchanda, today is certainly going to be an auspicious and a memorable day. For her immense contributions towards the field of entertainment,  she will be bestowed with the ever prestigious lifetime achievement award by Shubheccha Sangskritik Forum. She will receive the award from Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu at a programme titled ‘Ananda Binodon Star Award 2015’ to be held today at the main auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum. The news has been confirmed by founding president of Shubheccha Sangskritik Forum Md Moniruzzaman Apurba.
Suchanda expressed her emotions “Special form of gratitude goes out to those who have given me this immense honour. For an artiste, there is nothing more important than the love and admiration of her fans, the love and support of the people. Such an award is an inspiration to be more enthusiastic about one’s profession. A lifetime achievement award is the highest recognition one can get. I am honoured, delighted and grateful.”
Suchanda made her film debut with Subhash Dutta’s film ‘Kagojer Nouka’ in 1966. She came into limelight with the film Zahir Raihan’s ‘Behula’ in 1967. At the end of the year 1968, she got married to legendary Zahir Raihan.
Suchanda said, “Actually, my love grew not for the person Zahir; rather, I was fascinated with his work and talent. As a result, I became weak towards him when I went on to honour his talent.”
Besides working in the Bangla films, Suchanda also acted in a few Urdu films such as ‘Jaha Baje Shehnai’, ‘Pyaasa’ and ‘Hum Ek Hain’. She received the Nigar Award from Pakistan for her role in ‘Hum Ek Hain’.
Suchanda debuted as a film producer in 1985 with the making of film ‘Teen Kanya’ from her own production house named Suchanda Chalachitra. It has been said that Suchanda’s father had a dream to watch his three daughters (Suchanda, Babita and Champa) together on the screen at a time. His dream became true in movie ‘Teen Kanya’. But very unfortunately, their father died before the release of the film.
Later, Suchanda ventured as a director and directed ‘Hajar Bochor Dhore’, an adaptation of a novel of the same title by Zahir Raihan. The film brought Suchanda National Awards for Best Film in 2005. Some of Suchanda’s notable ventures are—‘Teen Kanya’ (1985), ‘Behula Lakshimdar’ (1987), ‘Basona’ (1993), ‘Prem Preeti’ (1995), “Sabuj Coat Kalo Chashma’ (1996) and ‘Hajar Bachhor Dhore’ (2005). l
