International Nurses Day 2016 celebrated at DMCH

Apart from observing International Nurses Day by various govt and non-govt organizations on 12 May 2016, the AK Khan Healthcare Trust and the three batches of Bone Marrow Transplant and Solid Tumour Nurses celebrated International Nurses Day at the Centre of Excellence for the BMT and Solid Tumour Nurses at the DMCH with cooperation of the DMCH authority and the dept. of haematology.

The meet was attended by the three batches of BMT and Solid Tumour Nurses. The meet was conducted by Shabnam Sultana Nina, project manager cum project head, Nursing, AK Khan Healthcare Trust, Meena Gyawali, nursing head, AKKHT and Farhad Hossain, sr. nursing faculty.

There were a number of honoured gusts which included Prof. Dr. M A Khan, Haematology & BMT Physician, Dr. AKM Mojibul Haque, deputy director, DMCH, Prof. Dr. Salma Afroza, dept. of haematology, DMCH, Dr. Maswoodur Rahman Prince, journal editor, Stethoscope, The Independent, Miss Khairun Nahar, superintendent, nursing dept. DMCH, Afroza Khanam, deputy nursing supervisor attended as special invitees. The celebration began with the recitation from the Holy Quran, Geeta, and the Bible. The honoured guests spoke on the nursing profession eulogizing its nobleness and selfless service and raising the status and dignity of the profession by better and higher education and training.

While addressing the meet Prof. Dr. M. A. Khan, heamatologist and BMT physician stressed upon the discipline, sincerety and skill development of the nurses specially who take care of the critical and difficult patient.

Dr Maswoodur Rahman Prince in his speech nsaid nursing is not only a mere profession rather a  dedication, which in other words is addiction. That’s why nurses can deliver selfless service. In the developed world people from the higher class has been taking nursing as profession and as such they get all the dignity and honour.

On the other hand in the under-developed and developing world nurses usually come to the profession from the lower strata of the society and are not well informed and trained that’s why the profession, though noble, do not received due honour. Dr. Prince also said that there is huge demand of well educated and well trained nurses in the developed world.

Speakers also spoke in unison for giving the honour and recognition to the profession. Two cakes were cut and snacks were distributed among the participants after which variety performance were staged by the participant nurses. Shabnam Sultana Nina mastered the ceremony.
