2 children among 5 killed in road crashes

Five people, including two children died in road crashes in two districts yesterday. In Munshiganj, three teenage boys were killed and 14 others injured in a head on a collision between a pick-up van and a truck on Dhaka-Mawa highway in Nimtoli area of Sirajdikhan upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB. The deceased were identified as Md Shuvo, 16, son of Rustom Ali, Md Rajat, 14, son of Giasuddin and Md Rafiq, 13, son of Joynal Abedin, all residents of Sonir Akhra area of the city.
Derik Quiya, in-charge of Hashara Police Outpost, said the Dhaka-bound pick up van carrying a group of teenagers from Mawa collided with the truck, leaving 17 of injured. The injured were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where three of the injured succumbed to their injuries. In Rangpur, two minor babies, who were injured in a road accident at Syedpur in Nilphamari last evening, died at Rangpur Medical College Hospital yesterday, police and hospital sources said, reports UNB.
The deceased are Dhiman, 5, son of Lalit Chandra and his cousin Bithi Rani, 4, daughter of Aswini Chandra of village Kamarpara under Kashiram Belpukur union of Syedpur upazila in Nilphamari district. The accident occurred when a battery-run auto-rickshaw hit the babies in front of their house on the Thelapeer-Hazarihat road while they were crossing the road at around 7 pm on Sunday. Both the babies were critically injured and local people immediately rushed them to Syedpur 100-bed Hospital from where they were shifted to RMCH as their conditions deteriorated.
The injured babies breathed their last at RMCH this morning.
Chairman of Kashiram Belpukur union Enamul Haque Chowdhury and Officer-in-Charge of Syedpur Thana Amirul Islam have confirmed the incident.
A case has been filed in this connection with Syedpur Thana, the OC added.
