Information Minister and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President Hasanul Huq Inu yesterday said militancy is the biggest threat to mothers and children at this moment, reports BSS.
"The militants are ruthless and brutal. They do not care for mothers and children," he said speaking as chief guest at a function to award Shishu Bandhu Gold Medal and Dr MR Khan and Anowara Trust Gold Medal 2015 and 2016 at Shishu Swastha Foundation at Mirpur in the capital.
Presided over by Shishu Swastha Foundation President National Professor Dr. MR Khan, the function was also addressed by Shishu Swastha Foundation Secretary General Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shahidullah. UNICEF and Bangladesh Pediatric Association got Shishu Bandhu Gold Medal 2015 and 2015 respectively while Dr MR Khan and Anowara Trust Gold Medal 2015 and 2016 were received by Prof Dr M Q K Talukder and Prof Dr SM Shahnawaz Bin Tabib (Posthumous).
Besides the gold medal, they got Taka one lakh each and a certificate. The information minister said natural calamities, war, militancy and poverty are threats to mothers and children.
He urged men to be more caring to women and children and said women must be honoured to take the civilization forward.
Inu said the parents, teachers and doctors should remain alert regarding the education and health of children. Girls should not be married off before 18 years and they should not give birth to children before 20 years, he added.
