Three candidates for the post of chairman of Vaya Luxmipur Union Parishad (UP) under Charghat Upazila of the district promised to improve civic amenities if elected. The candidates also pledged to make the UP free from corruption, reports BSS.
They also promised that they will put in their best efforts for making their respective administration developed besides improving living and livelihood condition of their voters through need-oriented projects.
The chairmen candidates were responding to queries from voters on Dakra Govt. Primary School playground in a face to face with people programme organised yesterday afternoon by Sushasoner Jonya Nagorik (SUJON).
The candidates who attended the programme are incumbent Chairman Abdul Mazid Pramanik (Awami League), Aminul Islam (BNP) and Shawkat Ali Bulbul (Independent).
All the candidates committed to fulfill the demands of the village people for safe drinking water and proper drainage system.
They pledged to accept people’s verdict in the ensuing municipality polls and work together with the people for an upgraded municipality. They also vowed to eradicate drug addiction, early marriage and stalking, ensure child education, and reduce dropout in primary education.
With SUJON local unit President Khairul Islam in the chair, some members of the civil society Saiful Haque Badsha, Ashraful Islam Sarker and Muhammad Kamruzzaman spoke on the occasion. SUJON Area Coordinator Subrata Kumar Paul was moderator of the event.
Began with reciting of National Anthem, hundreds of enthusiastic people irrespective of men, women and youths joined the programmes and raised volley of questions relating to their existing suffering and their development to the chairman aspirants in the grassroots local government elections.
In response, the candidates made their commitment that they will work for transforming their respective bodies into corruption-free, effective and welfare-oriented ones alongside ensuring transparency and accountability in every sector.
