No Metro rail through DU campus : Studnets

Dhaka University students (DU) yesterday formed a human chain in protest against the proposed metro rail route which is planned to be built through the DU campus. With the theme of ‘Shift Metrorail route and save the DU’ over 300 students gathered on the street near TSC at around 11am and then formed the human chain at foot of the Raju sculpture on the campus.  While speaking general students alleged that the metro rail route will hamper the environment of the campus in various points including DU Fine Arts Faculty, Raju Sculpture and Doel Chattar area.  They said that studying at the DU central library will also be disrupted when metro rail will run in the area.   They also urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to take initiatives to shift the route avoiding campus so that academic and structural beauty of the DU could not be hampered.   Besides the students, a good number of DU teachers of different departments also expressed their solidarity with the students. Speaking at the human chain, DU International Relations department assistant professor Tanjim Uddin Khan said that the government should not do anything which exploits the DU as the university has a historical glory in every crisis in the country.   Later the students also brought out a protest rally which paraded Shabagh to Central
Shaheed Minar area on the campus.
