As the scorching heat continued to rise, different parts of the country, including pockets of Dhaka, reported rainfall of varying intensities yesterday. Meteorological department sources said more rain could be expected soon to provide some relief from the heat. Tangail recorded the highest rainfall of 37 mm yesterday, followed by 28 mm in Netrokona, 26 mm in Srimangal, 21 mm in Ishurdi, and 17 mm in Rajshahi. But the light showers failed to douse the day’s heat with temperatures rising to a maximum of 37.8 degrees Celsius in Jessore and Maijdi Court. Dhaka received merely a few drops of rainfall. Met sources said a low-pressure area has developed at the south-western end of the Bay of Bengal, near Sri Lanka.
