Two Awami League activists, who were injured in a series of clashes during union parishad (UP) polls in Rajshahi and Jhenidah, died in hospitals yesterday. In Rajshahi, an Awami League activist, who received bullet in a clash during vote counting after the UP polls at Sharundi village in Bagmara upazila on May 7, died yesterday morning, reports UNB. Montaz Ali, 45, an inhabitant of Sharundi village and an activist of the local unit AL, succumbed to his injures at the Intensive Care Unit of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital at about 8:30 am, confirmed officer-in-charge of Bagmara Police Station Abdur Razzak. Seven people, who received injuries in the clash, including Montaz, were undergoing treatment under police custody at RMCH. Earlier on May 9, another AL activist, Jahidul Islam, injured in the clash, died at the ICU of CDM Private Hospital at about 5:00 am. On May 7, two people were killed and at least 30 others, including five policemen, were injured in the clash during election. Our Jhenidah Correspondent adds: Molayem Ahmed, 45, an activist of Awami league in Harinakundu upazila and an inhabitant of Barafalsi village of the upazila, succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) yesterday afternoon. Ayub Hossain, elder brother of Molayem, said Moalyem along with 30 others sustained injuries in a fierce clash following an election campaign during the union parishad election in Falsi union on May 5. Molayem was referred to DMCH on the day. Officer-in-charge of Harinakundu police station Mahatab Uddin confirmed it.
