Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a three-day programme including nationwide daylong hartal on Thursday protesting the execution of party ameer Maulana Motiur Rahman Nizami for committing war crimes in 1971. The hartal will begin at 5:00am on Thursday and end at 5:00am on Friday, said a Jamaat press release issued by its acting ameer of Jamaat Makbul Ahmad soon after the execution of Nizami at midnight. The party will also hold ‘gayebana janaza’ both at home and abroad today (Wednesday) and arrange doa mahfil across the country on Friday seeking salvation of the departed soul. The Jamaat acting ameer also called upon the party activists as well as countrymen to participate in the programme peacefully and make those successful. The Jamaat leader condemned the execution of Nizami and claimed that the Jamaat ameer was killed in a planned manner. Nizami was deprived of justice and became a victim of political vengeance, he added. Earlier on Sunday, Jamaal enforced a 24-hour countrywide hartal protesting a Supreme Court order that dismissed a review petition filed by Matiur Rahman Nizami against his death sentence issued by the International Crimes Tribunal, which was further upheld by the apex court.
