The Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Pashuram in Feni, HM Rakibul Haider, was critically injured in an attack allegedly by Awami League leaders and activists in Dhonikunda area of the district yesterday. Rakibul Haider was first taken to Parshuram Health Complex and then shifted to Feni General Hospital. Health Complex physicians told reporters that the UNO received severe injuries on the head and his condition was critical. Feni Deputy Commissioner Md Amin Ul Ahsan told reporters that Awami League’s District Vice-President Khairul Bashar Majumder Tapan and his associates assaulted HM Rakib Haider in Dhonikunda area of the Upazila on Friday noon. AL leader Khairul Bashar, however, denied his involvement in the incident. According to witnesses, AL leader Khairul Basher and UNO Rakibul Haider got engaged in an altercation as the two along with other AL leaders and activists were waiting at Dhonikunda to receive Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan who was coming to Parshuram to visit Bilonia land port and attend a rally. Tapan got into the argument with the UNO, accusing him of not showing respect to him, witnesses said. At one stage, the AL leader and his supporters assaulted UNO Rakib. Getting information, a team of police of Parshuram Police Station rushed to the spot and rescued the UNO. Officer In-charge of Parshuram Police Station Abul Kashem confirmed the incident.
