Barisal was announced a 'Early Marriage free' district on Thursday jointly by the district administration and Sammilito Nagarik Samaj, at a special programme at Barisal circuit house premises attended of cross sections of people in the city. Barisal Deputy Commissioner D. Gazi Md. Saifuzaman presided over the programme while Advocate Talukdar Md. Eynus MP attended the program as chief guest and announce Barisal as early marriage free district.
Barisal divisional commissioner Md. Gaus, Barisal Metropolitan Police Commissioner Lutfor Rahman Mondol, Deputy director of Government Innovation Unit of PM office Hasina Megum, principle of Barisal Govt. BM collage Prof SM Emanul Hakim attended the programme as special guests.
The program was also attended by about one thousand representatives of different sectors. Later, all the participants jointly took oath in this regard not to support early marriage and prevent such occurrences in future.
Speakers of the programme said that early marriage has turned into social disease in southern region. But only oath taking and announcement is not sufficient for combating the social disease. There is a need to ensure complete social security.
