A college student was killed in a road accident as speedy truck hit him near at Bahaddarhat flyover in front of Rowsan Boarding yesterday at around 8:45am. He died on the spot. The victim was identified as Satyapriya Das Tapu, 25, son of late Swapan Das, hailing from Moheshkhali upazila of Cox’s Bazar district. He was a student of fourth year of Department of Economics of Chittagong City College. The accident took place when he was hit by a speedy truck while crossing road. The truck came out from its track and on the wrong way and hit Tapu, alleged friends of the victim. Protesting the death and demanding the arrest of the truck driver, agitated students of the college took to the street at city’s Probartak area for one hour. During the road blockade a long trail back created at Chawkbazar, Gate no.2, Muradpur and Kazirdewari areas, causing immense suffering to the city commuters. When contacted, Mohiuddin Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Panchalish Police Station told The Independent “The agitated college students’ blockade road at Probartak area for some time. They withdrew their barricade while we assured them the truck driver will be arrested as early as possible. We have detained the truck and helper”.
