The yearlong film festival titled ‘New Films, New Filmmakers’, jointly organised by Moviyana Film Society and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), which began on April of last year, will come to a conclusion today. On that occasion, an award giving ceremony will be held today at the National Art Plaza auditorium of BSA at 6pm. Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith will be present as chief guest and will hand over the awards to the best selected filmmakers while filmmaker and senior member of the festival’s jury committee Syed Salauddin Jaki, cinematographer Anowar Hossain and filmmaker Morshedul Islam will be present as special guests. Presided over by BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky, director of ‘New Films, New Filmmakers’ and president of Moviyana Film Society Belayet Hossain Mamun will give the introductory speech on the closing day of the festival. The three awards that will be given at the festival has been named after three eminent film personalities of the country-‘Zahir Raihan Shreshtho Kahinichittra Puroskar’ for best full-length feature film, ‘Alamgir Kabir Shreshto Pramannocholochittra Puroskar’ for best documentary film and ‘Badal Raihan Shreshto Shalpadourgho Puroskar’ for best short film. Throughout the 12-month event, 220 films have been submitted. A jury committee was formed who selected 139 films which were screened on the last Friday of every month. A total of 195 filmmakers from the country took part in the yearlong festival. After handing out the awards, the three best selected films will be screened at the venue.
