BCB to hold ‘Challenge Series’
to select Under-19 cricketers

In a bid to sort out potential players for the next Under-19 campaign, BCB Game Development will host ‘Challenge Series-2016’ with the involvement of the selected Under-18 players. The Challenge series is slated to roll onto the ground in the first week of May at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothisthan (BKSP). The board has already selected 42 players from the Young Tigers U-18 National Competition with the help of BCB appointed coaches coupled with local divisional coaches. Mizanur Rahman Babul and Ehsanul Haque Seezan worked at three different host city grounds to identify the players. Babul worked in Chittagong’s MA Aziz Stadium and Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, while Seezan acted in Rangpur’s Cricket Garden and Dinajpur’s Divisional Stadium. With the help of local coaches, the duo finally figured out the 42-best players from the 10-divisional teams’ competition. A 24-member final squad will be picked from the series. Later, they will join in the main camp of the U-19 with the existing players for the next campaign. The camp is scheduled to take place either BKSP Group-4 in Savar or Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna after the challenge series.
AEM Kawser, senior deputy national manager of BCB’s Game Development, admitted the matter and said that they want to soon launch programme for the U-19 team.
“We’re going to host the Challenge Series-2016 to find out the final squad. We’ll finally take 24, out of 42-selected boys. They will join the camp. But the venue of the camp has not been finalised yet. But it will be held either BKSP or Khulna,” said AEM Kawsar.
“We’re talking about the venue. If we could manage it, we will then start our training camp after the Challenge series,” Kawsar told The Independent.
