KHULNA: A total of 1, 84,394 hectares of land have been fixed for jute cultivation in 10 districts under Khulna division during the current season, reports BSS. Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said jute would be cultivated on 1,84,394 hectares of land with a production target of 21 lakh 4 thousands and 976 bales of jute. Of them, jute cultivation have been fixed in Kushtia of 35,335 hectares, Magura of 32,730 hectares, Meherpur of 23,395 hectares, Jessore of 21,938 hectares, Jhenidah 19,785 hectares, Chuadanga of 18,950 hectares, Narail of 18,350 hectares, Satkhira of 10,655, Khulna of 1,820 hectares and Bagerhat of 1,436 hectares of lands. The farmers of 10 districts in Khulna division cultivated mainly 'tosha' and 'deshi' varieties of jute, DAE sources said. Besides, farmers also cultivated fabric variety of Mechhta and Kenaf jutes in the division. When asked about effect of heavy heat wave, no rain on jute cultivation in the region, the officials said this region has many water bodies so drought did not affect much in jute cultivation, harvesting and procession. Talking to the Deputy Director of DAE in Khulna Abdul Latif, said that the government has already distributed adequate seedlings, fertilizers, pesticides and different agriculture ingredients among the farmers. Besides, different commercial bank including Bangladesh Krishi Bank distributed necessary loans facility among the farmers.
