State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Naryan Chandra Chanda yesterday said that farmers can play a pivotal role in producing quality and safe food and ensuring their exports, reports BSS. He said government is implementing various programmes for the welfare of the farmers and as well as boosting agricultural output. He was addressing as the chief guest at the distribution ceremony of PH meters for water examination and ingredients to ensure safe fish production among the shrimp farmers at Dumuria upazila in Khulna. The minister said the fisheries sector is playing an important role for earning foreign exchange. Bangladesh, he said, started exporting food after achieving food self-sufficiency. Chaired by district fisheries officer Harendranath Sarker, the function was addressed, among others, by Dumuria upazila chairman Khan Ali Mansur, woman vice-chairman Shirin Daulat, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sefat Mehnaz. Senior upazila fisheries officer Saroz Kumar Mistri delivered the welcome speech. Later, the minister distributed PH meters for safe fish production among 300 farmers. The minister also attended a discussion meeting marking the national legal aid day at the auditorium of Dumuria upazila.
