Two activists of the ruling Awaim League were hacked and shot to death by unidentified people at Rajibpur village under Sadar upazila of Laxmipur district early yesterday. The deceased were identified as Syed Hossain Manik, 43, son of late Sekandar Mia and Kamrul Islam, 40, son of Shamsul Karim, both hailing from Rajibpur village in the district. Relatives of the deceased said, Both Kamrul and Manik went out of their homes after receiving phone calls at about 1am on Friday.
But they did not return home. At around 7am, locals saw two bodies floating beside a paddy field and informed to the police. A police team later recovered the bodies which were identified by relatives.
Bangakha Union Parishad Chairman Anowar Hossain Kajal said first the attackers hacked the two with local weapon and later shot them from very close distance. Both the deceased were activists of the local Awami League, he added.
When contacted, Assistant Superintend of Police Nasim Mia told The Independent that bullet riddled bodies of two peoples were found at Rajibpur early in the morning yesterday (Friday).
The police official suspected that the two were killed due to feud over drug business. Police sent the bodies to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital for autopy. Police also said that several cases had been filed against them with the local police station.
