RAJSHAHI: Two persons were sentenced to life imprisonment each by a trial court here on Thursday on charge of possessing 50 grams of heroin in the district last year, reports BSS. Judge of the Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal Golam Ahmed Khalilur Rahman found them guilty of the charge and pronounced the verdict in their presence. The convicts were identified as Tareque, 32, son of Riazul Islam and Hassan Ali, 42, son of late Abdur Rahman. Both are the residents of Kathalbaria village under Paba upazila of the district. The court also fined them Taka 10,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more behind the bar. According to the prosecution story, in brief, is that a police team arrested Tareque and Hassan Ali and seized the heroin after searching their bodies in Uzanpara area under Godagari upazila of the district on February 24 last year. Subsequently, a case had been lodged with the concerned police station. On completion of investigation, police pressed charges accusing them. After examining the recorded deposition of the prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidences the tribunal handed down the aforesaid verdict.
