RAJSHAHI: A gang of robbers allegedly looted gold ornaments and money from jewellery shop in Ganakpara area of the city on Thursday evening. According to witness, a gang of robbers numbering 10 to 15 entered the area with a microbus and hurled several crude bombs, in front of the jewelry shop. However when the pedestrians and others shops owners become busy to safe themselves, four robbers entered the M Ray Jewelry shop and looted gold ornaments and money.
Robbers attacked, owner of the M Ray jewelry shop Monish Ray with sharp weapons while he tried to resist them and flee from the spot. Later, the robbers charged several crude bombs for second time when they fled the spot. Pedestrians, rickshaw-puller and another three workers of the jewelry shop were injured during the time. The injured were rushed to Rajshahi Medical College hospital for treatment. Getting information, police and RAB members rushed to the spot. Golam Saqlain, assistant commissioner of Boalia Model Police Station, said the robbery was committed when it was utterly peak time for business.
Md Shamsuddin, commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, after visiting the spot told the journalists that the robbers committed robbery in four to five minutes. However, police fired five-round blanks shots at that time. Later, police set up check posts of all enter and exit points of the city.
Meanwhile, lawmaker and also general secretary of Workers Party Fazle Hossain Badsha expressed concern over the deterioration of law and order situation across the district.
