Former students of Rajshahi University (RU) formed a human chain in front of the National Museum at Shahabagh in the capital yesterday protesting the murder of Professor AFM Rezaul Karim Siddiquee. Under the banner of former students of Rajshahi University, more than hundreds of former students of RU gathered in the programme, carrying different banner and leaflets in their hands. They (students) also performed different songs and poems as a symbol of their protest against the brutal killing of their beloved teacher.
While talking to the Independent Nishat Zahan Rana, a student of RU who has completed her masters in 1994, told, “It is our heartiest request to the government to take visible initiatives to identify the culprits and ensure punishment as well”. “If the respective authority fails to arrest the murderers, they (killers) will become wilder, which will be a big threat to the nation” she added. “Today we all have gathered here demanding the punishment of all killers, who have been killing innocent people in the name of Islam across the country” she added. “Such kind of crimes would happen consecutively if the culprits are not given capital punishment” said Babu, a former student of RU.
