Mohakal Natya Sampradaya will stage their acclaimed production ‘Prometheus’ today at 6:30pm at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Segun Bagicha in the city. The play will be staged as a part of the ongoing ‘5th National Youth Theatre Festival’. ‘Prometheus’, written by Anon Zaman and directed by Mostafizur Nur Imran, is a Bangla adaptation of Aeschylus’s ancient Greek tragedy ‘Prometheus Bound’. The play encircles the myth of Prometheus, a Titan who defied the gods and gifted humanity with fire, for which he was subjected to eternal punishment.
Mir Zahid Hasan, Syed Lutfar Rahman, Mohammad Shahnewaj, Utpal Chakrobarty, Anabil Khisak, Zahidul Kamal Chowdhury and others have played different roles in the play. Thandu Rayhan has done the lights, while Ali Ahmed Mukul and Mostafizur Nur Imran have done the stage and music respectively.
To note, the 8-day ‘5th National Youth Theatre Festival 2016’, arranged by the People’s Theatre Association (PTA) in association with Cultural Ministry and BSA, began on April 23 and will be continued till April 30.
A total of seven universities and 22 troupes from all over the country are taking part in this eight-day festival. The festival features as many as 32 stage plays and staging of the play is scheduled at every day from 6:30pm. Each day four dramas are being staged at the Experimental Theatre Hall and National Music and Dance Auditorium of BSA simultaneously. Alongside the drama, there are workshop, puppet show, clown show, magic program and theatre games in the festival.
