With a view to provide improved sanitation facility to the students of primary schools, Department of Public Health and Engineering (DPHE) is constructing 476 toilets in primary schools in the district.
A source in DPHE office said a total of 244 toilets are being constructed for female students and 232 are being constructed for male students.
The office said Tk 8 lakh was allotted for constructing a toilets.The office said each of the female toilets will consist 3 wash rooms of which one for the disabled students and hand wash basin in a room. On the other hand each male toilet will have the same structure but it will be a urinal facility. The office said of the toilets, 111 are being built in Jamalpur sadar, 59 in Sarishabari, 68 in Madarganj, 59 in Islampur, 77 in Melandaha, 66 in Dewanganj and 36 in Bakshiganj upazila. The office said, after construction of the toilets students will enjoy safe and hygienie sanitation facility in schools.
Divisional Estimator, DPHE, Sekander Ali said construction work of 326 toilets has already been completed and the rest will be completed by June next.
