Work of 70 km long Dhaka-Tangail-Elenga highway at a cost of about Tk 3,066 crore is going on in full swing.
The highway is connected to at least 22 North Bengal districts with the capital city and other places of the country.
The highway is also an important part of SAARC highway corridor-4, Asian highway-2 and Asian highway-41.
The project has been undertaken with a view to develop internal communication with the North and at the same time increasing communication network with the neighbouring countries said Bridge and Communication Minister Obaidul Kader.
Dilip Kumar Guha Project Director of the highway said 70 km highway, 5 flyovers, 26 bridges and 60 culverts will be constructed at a cost of Tk 3,066 crore 80 lakh. Separate lane for the slow moving transports will be added with the highways. Government of Bangladesh will bear Tk 123 crore 12 lakh and Tk 1843 crore 68 lakh will be spent from foreign funding.
The projects are going to be implemented under four contract packages. The package of 10 kms part of Tangail-Elenga will be implemented by the Abu Dabhi Fund for Development and other packages will be implemented by the funds of Asian Development Bank and OPEC fund.
