Police yesterday detained two more people in Rajshahi for their reported wrath against slain Rajshahi University Professor AFM Rezaul Karim Siddiquee. The two were detained from Dargamaria and neighbouring Khajapara villages. According to police, these two were infuriated by Siddiquee’s role in establishing a music school in his ancestral village. The arrestees are Raihan Ali, 28, Imam of Dargamaria village mosque, and Monsur Rahman, 50, a teacher of Gopalpur Islamia Alim Madrassa of neighbouring Khajapara village. Rajshahi Metropolitan Police commissioner Mohammad Shamsuddin said they were held for interrogation as some villagers told the law enforcers that they were against the setting up of the music school by Prof Siddiquee and warned some students of the school against attending it. “We believe the police would be able to fetch important information quizzing them,” he said.
Meanwhile, Raihan’s wife Shahara Khatun claimed her husband to be a simple man, and said the man has no involvement with any political party.
