DHAKA: The ruling Awami League (AL) today declared names of 716 candidates for the post of chairmen in the upcoming fifth phase of election to 733 Union Parishads (Ups) scheduled to be held on May 28 next, reports BSS.
AL Joint General Secretary Mahbub-Ul-Alam Hanif announced the names of the nominated chairmen candidates from the party president’s political office at Dhanmondi. Names of 17 more candidates will be published in the AL website.
The AL leader called upon all including the people, law enforcement agencies to help hold the elections in a free, fair and credible manner.  Hanif sounded a note of warning against those who will take part in the election ignoring the decision of AL as well as act against the AL nominated candidates.  Asking about the procedure of nominating candidates, he said, “There are many candidates aspiring for AL nomination in each of the Union Parishad. But, it is not possible to nominate them all.”
“Necessary action will be taken, if any irregularity is found in nominating candidates after thorough investigation,” he assured. Among others, Joint General Secretary Dr. Dipu Moni, Organising Secretaries Ahmed Hossain, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, MP, BM Mozammel Haque, MP, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, MP, Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Swapon, MP and Bir Bahadur, MP, and Office Secretary Dr. Abdus Sobhan Golap, were present on the occasion.
