Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday told the Jatiya Sangsad that about 30 per cent of the construction work of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge has been completed, reports BSS. “About 30 per cent work of the Padma Bridge has been completed and that of the Postagola-Mawa-Babubazar road into four-lane would be done,” he said while replying to a supplementary question from treasury bench member Advocate Navana Akter in the House yesterday. Quader also said that Bangladesh Army would construct the four-lane Postgola-Mawa-Babubazar road. Replying to a question from treasury bench member Golam Dastgir Gazi, the minister said the Padma Multipurpose Bridge is being constructed under the Bridge Division. He said, “20.5 per cent work of the main bridge, 17.50 per cent river training, 64.88 per cent of Janjira connecting road, 72.80 per cent of Mawa connecting road and 78.13 per cent of the Padma Bridge service-area-2 have been completed.” He told the House that the implementation progress of the five packages under the Padma Bridge project has been completed. Besides, the bridge division has also a plan to construct eight bridges including the second Padma Bridge on Paturia-Goalanda point, Bhulta-Araihazar-Banchharampur-Nabinagar bridge over the Meghna river, Rahmatpur-Babuganj-Muladi-Hijla-Mehendiganj bridge over Arialkha river and more bridges in different roads across the country, Quader added.
