Leg-spin prodigy Jubair Hossain Likhon’s six wickets gave Abahani Limited a comfortable seven-wicket win over Kalabagan Krira Chakra in the low-scoring opening day match of the Dhaka Premier League at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah yesterday.
Elsewhere at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothisthan (BKSP) Ground-3, Imtiaz Hossain blasted century to steer Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club to a comprehensive eight wickets triumph over Cricket Coaching School.
Abahani vs Kalabagan KC
Opting to bat first, Kalabagan Krira Chakra lost opener Shadman Islam before opening their accounts when pacer Taskin Ahmed struck the bowl in the very second delivery of the innings.
Hamilton Masakadza tried to handle the initial fuss with Jashimuddin and Tasamul Haque. Zimbabwean batsman combined of 37 runs with Jashim for the second wicket and 41-run with Tasamul for the third wicket stand.
Masakadza top-scored for KKC with 41 off 54 that featured with five boundaries before being bowling by Jubair Hossain, who did not allow batsmen to go for big shots and posed any threat for them.
Jubair Hossain, who bowled quite well in the practice match earlier of the start of the DPL, finished his bowling figure with 9.1-0-34-6 and named the player of the match for his amazing bowling performance.
In reply, Abahani Limited reached the target without any big trouble though they lost opener Tamim Iqbal and Liton Kumar Das inside nine overs.
Abahani’s Indian recruit Uday Kaul hit a 62-run with Avishek Mitra for the third wicket. Avishek made 32. Later Kaul together with Nazmul Hossain Shanto slotted home the victory with 129 balls to spare. Kaul clouted four boundaries to be left unbeaten on 44 off 56.
Shanto remained at stumps on 38-ball 35 that studded with one six and four fours so far.
Dewan Sabbir and Nihaduzzaman booked one wicket each for Kalabagan.
Prime Doleshwar vs CCS
Cricket Coaching School chose to bat first after winning the toss and fumbled at the initial stage when they lost two top-order batsmen for 12. Pinak Ghosh in association with Salman Hossain tried to steady the ship and smack 32-run for the third wicket.
The team, therefore, has been formed mostly with young players hailing from World Cup Under-19 campaign, lost both Salman and skipper Rajin Saleh cheaply while they were stuttering at 65 for four.
Then, Mohammad Saifuddin, Saeed Sarkar made a bit resistance against Prime Doleshwar bowlers. When Saifuddin was out CCS were struggling at 161-8. Saifuddin made 31 and Saeed Sarkar cracked 34. Finally they managed to muster 177 for all-out in 49.2 overs.
Pacer Al Amin Hossain and Rezaul Karim hauled three wickets apiece for Prime Doleshwar.
Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club chased down the target with eight wickets and 28 balls in hands. Imtiaz Hossain stroked 100 off 140 with the round dozen boundary before being bowled by Mohammad Saifuddin.
Rony Talukdar fell three runs short of his half century. He clubbed two sixes as many as three fours in his 54-ball knock. Rakibul Hasan cracked 69-ball 27 with two fours to be unbeaten. Doleshwar Sri Lankan recruit Lahiru Milantha was on two not out.
