Yearlong event of BSA to be inaugurated today

On the occasion of the 450th birth anniversary and the 400th death anniversary of noted poet, playwright and actor William Shakespeare, Theatre and Film Department of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) has organised a year-long programme. Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith will inaugurate the year-long programme today at BSA, while noted thespians Ramendu Majumdar, Ataur Rahman, Aly Zaker, Barbara Wickham, Mofidul Haque and Nasiruddin Yusuf will attend the inaugural ceremony as special guests. BSA Director General Liakaut Ali Lucky will preside over the inaugural ceremony.
Today, a Shakspeare Carnival will be held from 4pm at the premises and lobby of National Theatre Hall, while a videography exhibition titled ‘Bangladesher Natyamanche Shakspeare’ will be screened at 7pm and discussion on Bangladesh-e Shakespeare’ by Dhaka University English Department Professor Dr Fakhrul Alam will be held at 7:20 pm at the same venue. On the other hand, English Department of DU will recite Shakespearean sonnets at 8:35pm. After recitation, a part of William Shakespeare’s plays– ‘Macbeth’, ‘Troilus and Cressida’, ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’ will be staged at 8:40pm. A press conference was held yesterday at the Seminar Hall of BSA’s National Theatre Hall to inform the media about the yearlong programmes of BSA to mark the legendary Shakespeare’s 450th birth anniversary and 400th death anniversary.
