BNP slams interim report’

BNP on Monday slammed Bangladesh Bank’s ex-Governor Dr Farashuddin Ahmed for his remark that the government should be given time for taking breath over the central bank’s money heist, reports UNB. “Dr Farashuddin Ahmed has submitted their probe report (on Bangladesh Bank heist) to the Finance Minister. He said the government should be given some time to breathe. As a government’s well-wiser he has given it time for taking breath,” said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. Speaking at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, he further said, “How much time will you give this regime when it has created a suffocating and dangerous situation for the entire nation?…The nation’s existence will be at stake if it’s given further time for taking breath.” The 3-member probe committee, formed to investigate  the Bangladesh Bank’s reserve heist scandal, submitted its report to Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Wednesday. The probe committee, led by Farashuddin, handed over the report to the Finance Minister.
Rizvi said if the current government remains there in office for a long many more mothers will lose their children and the country’s election system will be robbed of. The BNP leader said the ruling party men have become desperate ahead of the third phase of the Union Parishad polls to snatch people’s voting rights and ensuring their party’s candidates’ victory by any means. He said the government is also harassing and terrorising BNP leaders and activists in different election areas by the members of police and BGB. “The mass arrest of BNP men has begun in the election areas.” Rizvi alleged the Election Commission is playing a silent role in taking any action against those intimidating voters and attacking opposition leaders and activists.
