Artist Samina Nafies’ solo exhibition titled ‘Baishakh and Reinterpretation of Indigenous Art’ is currently on display at Galerie Zoom, Alliance Française de Dhaka in the city’s Dhanmondi area. The two-week exhibition has begun on April 12 and will continue till April 25. Former ambassador and secretary AKM Atiqur Rahman was present as guest at the opening ceremony of the exhibition on April 12. A total number of 23 artworks, where 21 works have been done in oil painting and two works in mixed media, have been put on display in the ongoing show. Samina Nafis was born in 1961. A First Class First in Master of Fine Arts in painting from the University of Chittagong, Nafis concentrated on rural pottery and has developed unique compositions that were featured in exhibitions both national and international. She works in oil and mixed media collage experimenting with messy motifs inspired by her childhood memories. She mostly follows the folk artists and their creations. She has taken part in numerous exhibitions both in home and abroad and illustrated several books for underprivileged children and other story books. She has written two books in Bangla- ‘Surrealism in Painting’ and ‘Drawing and Reading of Pictures’. The exhibition is open to all until April 25 and can be visited according to the following schedule—Monday to Thursday from 3pm to 9pm, Friday and Saturday (9am to12 noon and 5pm to 8pm).
