Two killed in ‘gunfight’ with RAB in Ctg

Two suspected robbers were killed in a gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Mohurir Char project of Jorarganj area under Mirsharai upazila of Chittagong early yesterday. The deceased were identified as Yakub Ali and Kamrul Hasan, both hailed from Mothbaria of Pirojpur district, who were allegedly involved in a robbery of Shamim Jewelry shop at Baroiarhat of the upazila on February 28 last. The RAB men also recovered four revolvers, three LGs, one shooter gun, huge bullets and other equipments used for robbery from the spot. Commander of RAB-7 Lieutenant Colonel Miftah Uddin Ahmed said based on secret information that a gang of robbers were taking preparation for committing robbery at Mohurir Char project of Jorarganj area, a team of the elite force conducted a drive around 4.30am while robbers team were getting prepared for robbery. Sensing the presence of the elite force members, the robbers opened fire on them, triggering a gunfight. The team of RAB was also retaliated fire for self defense leaving two robbers dead on the spot, he added. Earlier of February 28, Miscreants looted nearly 350 talas of gold from Shamim jewelry shop and injured two people by blasting bombs at Baroahat of the upazila. RAB said they had identified Yakub and Kamrul from the shop’s CCTV footages.
